DIY Farmhouse Style Desk for Under $100!

During this time of quarantine because of Covid-19, my husband and I have had a lot more time together than usual. He and I are thankfully both working still, but I’m teaching online now so whenever he has the day off, I’m home with him. Because of this extra time, we decided to create a few DIY projects together. My husband loves to build and I enjoy helping him however I can, usually with staining and/or painting whatever he has built.

DIY Farmhouse Desk

This time around, we opted for a DIY farmhouse desk. I haven’t had a desk since we got married, and as a blogger I’ve always wanted one. We have never had the space for one, but after some rearranging the furniture in our apartment and getting rid of a big bookcase we didn’t need, we created the space we needed.

I’m overjoyed to have this beautiful desk to not only blog and edit youtube videos from, but now that I’m online teaching, I get to teach my third graders from my desk every week day, too!

DIY desk under $100

A Beautiful, Handmade Desk for approximately $100

I’m extremely proud of this desk because my husband built it from scratch and it’s absolutely beautiful. I know it will last us a lifetime and we may even pass it down to one of our children down the road.

I especially love that the cost to build this desk was extremely reasonable. It only costs us about $100 for the wood, paint, and stain. Luke already had the tools we needed. If we were to buy a desk for $100 off say Amazon or Ikea, it would be crappy particle board and wouldn’t last longer than a decade at most. It feels good to have a solid, well-built desk for a great price.

We built the desk ourselves by using the plans from the blog Handmade Haven. You can find the blog post here that describes in detail how to build the desk. Ashley offers plans for purchase at just $6.00. We were happy to purchase the plans and support her in a small way because without them we wouldn’t have been able to build our beautiful desk.

Watch the Process!

I created a video on my YouTube channel that documents a bit of the process of creating this desk. It’s not a tutorial, though, so you’ll still need to follow Ashley’s plans if you’d like to create the desk yourself. You can enjoy watching the video below, or head over to my YouTube channel to watch it there.

I hope you enjoyed watching our process of creating this beautiful DIY farmhouse desk and are inspired to create one for yourself. What is your favorite kind of DIY to create? Let me know in the comments below!

Frugal Living Resources That I Love:

Ibotta:

Ibotta is my favorite cash back app that I use on my phone to earn cash back whenever I go shopping.

It includes my favorite stores, like Amazon, Target, Costco, Fred Meyer, and Walmart. All you have to do is add items from your recent shopping trip on the app, scan your receipt, and earn instant cash back!

Use my referral link here to download the app and earn your first $10, my treat!

Ebates:

Ebates is my favorite whenever I’m online shopping because I earn cash back from online purchases.

For example, if Ebates is offering 10% cash back for shopping at Target and my order total is $100, I’ll get $10 cash back. Amazing right?!

The easiest way to use Ebates is by downloading their cash back button (after you sign up for free with Ebates and earn your first $10 just for using my link.)Simply click the Ebates cash back button that will pop up on the store website, make your purchase, and Ebates will deposit your cash back into your Ebates account! It would be crazy NOT to use it and earn money back on all your online shopping.

MyPoints:

MyPoints is my favorite way to earn Amazon gift cards and AMC movie theater gift cards in my spare time while watching a show or movie. MyPoints is an online rewards program that gives you points for taking surveys, reading e-mails, shopping, doing web searches, and more.

Once you earn a certain amount of points, you can redeem them for a gift card of your choice to over 75 merchantsThey also offer free access to coupons to hundreds of different merchants daily.

I’ve already earned 3 $25 AMC gift cards and a $50 Amazon gift card just by using MyPoints while watching Netflix.
