No matter what stage of life you’re in, dating takes intentionality. At first, dating is easy for couples because the honeymoon stage is real and the two of you are pretty much inseparable. As time goes on though, life can seem to “get in the way” and quality time gets shifted to the back burner.
But even in the busiest seasons of life, it’s important to still date your SO/spouse. I absolutely love going on dates with my husband, and over the past 6+ years, we’ve been on some really fun dates.
Sometimes, when I need inspiration for a fun date idea, I’ll scroll through my own instagram page or Google photos. I know that might sound crazy, but I’ve always been good at documenting memories. I love memories, and taking photos is a great way to ensure I don’t forget fun dates or special times in my life. Even the most simple, ordinary days spent with my husband and dog become some of my fondest memories.
So, after scrolling through the past 6 years of memories with my husband, I wrote down my top 15 favorite dates that we’ve been on together as a couple. Some of these date ideas we’ve done multiple times over the year because we enjoy them so much. I hope that by sharing them with you, you’re able to enjoy these dates and make memories you’ll also look fondly back on over the years.
My Top 15 Favorite Date Ideas From the Past 6 Years of Dating
1. Polaroid Camera Date
Grab a polaroid camera (we used my instamaxmini9), or any type of camera you have handy, and explore a new spot together. Take fun pictures to document your time and the new places you enjoyed together.
2. Explore New Parks with Beautiful Gardens
Going on a walk can be a nice thing to do together, but it’s even more fun when you get to explore a new park or beautiful spot together. We love to find new parks we haven’t been to before, but a few of our favorites with multiple gardens and beautiful views never get old to stroll through for a nice afternoon date.
3. Paint Date
Paint dates are so much fun because you can work on an art project while letting conversation flow easily. We love painting pottery at places like Java and Clay Cafe, painting on canvas at paint and sip locations, and even creating our own paint dates at home with supplies from your local craft store.
Both my husband and I are active people and love to hike. We live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest so there are endless, gorgeous spots to hike and explore. It’s a great challenge to embark on together and a fun way to be each other’s biggest fan as your legs are burning on the uphill battle to the top.
5. Lake/Beach Day
There are so many fun things couples can do on a date at the lake or beach. Our favorites are swimming, floating on tubes, fishing, and packing a picnic to enjoy the view.

Kayaking and Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) are super fun date activities to do if you live near the water. Luke and I have paddle boarded many times on the puget sound, and kayaked on Lake Union with a few of the Seattle skyline in front of us. We also got to kayak through cenotes on our honeymoon to Cancun and that was an absolute blast. All of these dates together provided lots of laughter, adventure, and the best memories.
7. Train to the City
Luke had never been on a train before, so a couple birthday’s back we celebrated by taking the train to Seattle. We enjoyed spectacular views of the city from the Columbia tower, toured an old firehouse museum, and ate lots of delicious food. It almost felt like we were on vacation but we were just being tourists in our own city. It was the best!
8. Weekend Getaways
Cape Flattery, WA & Forks, WA
Bellingham, WA & Everson, WA
A weekend getaway is hands down my absolute favorite way to spend quality time with my husband. We have always had the best time on our weekend getaways and come back feeling more in love than ever. It’s a great opportunity to unplug from everyday distractions and focus on your relationship with your honey. I highly recommend!
9. Sports Games (Football, Baseball, and Hockey are our Favorites)
Sports games; the atmosphere, the food, the excitement! There’s nothing quite like a date night rootin’ on your favorite team.
10. Fancy Dinner
Those of you who know me know that I love to save money wherever I can. However, that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy a fancy date night once in awhile. Once or twice a year, Luke and I get dressed up and enjoy a fancy dinner date night at a new place we haven’t been before. It’s fun to clean up, remind each other of what we look like NOT in sweatpants or work clothes lol, and enjoy each other’s company in a romantic setting with good food.
11. Pumpkin Patch with Pumpkin Donuts and Corn Maze
Working our way into autumn, we LOVE going to the pumpkin patch. We always choose the best pumpkin patch, complete with apple cider, pumpkin donuts, and a corn maze. It makes for an unforgettable fall date idea and one we happily repeat every year.
12. Ice Skating
I couldn’t find any better pictures than the one above, but Luke and I have gone ice skating at least a dozen times together. We used to live in Spokane and our college had a free ice skating rink to use, which we took full advantage of often. Then downtown Spokane ended up putting in an ice skating “ribbon” in the heart of Riverfront Park the winter before we moved so we got to enjoy it for some time. Ice skating is a romantic and fun date to enjoy in the winter months when there’s not much else to do. And you get to hold hands and laugh at each other when you fall, which definitely adds to the fun. 😉
Look closely at the first picture, then the second picture. Comment down below if you can find the hidden item in picture #2 😉
But anyway, sledding or tubing in the snow is another one of our favorite winter date ideas. We tend to go all out and find the steepest hill possible, which obviously makes it the most fun.
14. Ferry to Explore a New Town
For this one, you’d have to be visiting a place on the water or live in the PNW like we do. But I had to include it in my favorite date ideas because it’s one I’ve done several times with Luke and we love it each time. We’ve taken the ferry to Whidbey Island several times and San Juan Island to explore the lavender gardens and other cute little shops the island has to offer. The ferry is a lot of fun alone, but exploring a new island adds to the uniqueness of the date and provides for new experiences together.
15. Ice Cream and Walk
This is one of our favorite “go-to” date ideas for when we aren’t feeling super creative or don’t have a ton of time on our hands but want to spend quality time together. We like to go to our favorite local ice cream shop, get a scoop on a waffle cone, and walk along the water. It’s a great date for day or night, is inexpensive, and provides time for talking and enjoying time unplugged with each other. The perfect date in a pinch 🙂
